Process

The best way to get in touch with us is to send us an email, or give us a quick call to discuss what you are after.

The first thing to decide is whether or not the cabin can be delivered, and lifted into place with a hiab crane, if you are unsure about this we can easily visit the site and assess if the access is ok. If there is not an option of a Hiab delivery then we can build the cabin on site.

Next step is to send us an email with any ideas you may have, including what the intended use of the cabin is. You may decide you would like to match your existing house, in this case you can send us a few photos and we will go from there, or alternatively we could visit this site.

We can change anything about the design of the cabin such as joinery style, interior paint colour, location and number of power points, style of lights, exterior cladding, number of windows and doors, the list goes on.

We also take care of all foundation work that is required, we would usually require a site visit to assess what work needs to be done. Sometimes a few photos would be enough for us to see what needs to be done.

We can throw ideas back and forward to each other until we come up with a design that works for you.

From there we can give you a formal quote, for work to be booked in we require a 40% deposit. We would give you an estimated delivery time-frame.

You may change your mind after the finalised design, but that is no problem we can stay in touch throughout the building process and change the design if its till possible.

We always oversee delivery day and make sure that it all goes smoothly, we use the best guys available from swanson transport.

FAQs

Do you have a show home I can view?

We often have a cabin to view, although they are usually sold pretty quickly. Give us a call or contact us through our contact page to see if we can arrange a viewing for you.

Can you build on our site?

Generally our cabins are built in our yard in Auckland and transported to your property using a Hiab Transport truck. That being said, if delivery access is limited, we can build your Tiny Timber Home on-site too!

Are there different styles and finishes available for the cabins?

Yes there are multiple options available and the cabins are fully customizable. We have two basic designs (mono-pitch roof and gable roof - which you can read about on the Floor Plans page) that include timber weatherboard exterior cladding, full insulation, one window, one single door, electrical components (light + switch + double power outlet), iron roof, particle board interior finish and laminate flooring. Customized extras can always be added at your request and we are open to your design suggestions and will work with you to build a cabin perfectly suited to your requirements and budget.

Are the cabins insulated?

Yes the cabins are fully insulated - floor, ceiling and walls.

What maintenance is required for my Tiny Timber Home?

Maintenance requirements depend on the exterior finish of the cabin. Oiling is required on exposed timber cladding and we recommend oiling the cladding every 4-6 months in the first two years, then once a year. On choosing your finishings and on delivery, we can talk you through everything you need to keep your tiny home in perfect condition for year to come.

What are the dimensions of the cabins?

Our base model designs have base dimensions of 4.15 m by 2.4 m. The mono-pitch cabins have a ceiling height of 2.4 m at the high end and 2.2 m at the low end. This is customisable and can be discussed throughout the design process.

How do I get power to my Tiny Timber Home?

You can choose from a caravan plug fitting or standard extension cord plug to be fitted to the cabin. Power can then be provided from your house using an extension cord.

How much will my Tiny Timber Home Cost?

Prices start from around $14,000 + gst for a base model with no extras included. Transport to site and installation is an additional cost based on the distance from our yard in Auckland. Get in touch with one of our team to discuss your dream cabin and we'll talk you through the process and give you a free no-obligation quote to get you started.

What are the terms of payment?

We require a 40% deposit to cover the material costs prior to commencing construction, then full payment on delivery. Finance options are also available, so feel free to give us a call to discuss this.

Will I need a building consent?

Generally you will not require a building consent for structures with a floor area up to 10 m2. However, it is your responsibility to check the specific consent rules for your area before delivery.

What are the consent rules?

  • The building must not exceed 10m2 in floor area
  • The building must be set back from the property boundaries a minimum distance equivalent to the building height
  • There must already be an existing dwelling present on the property
  • The building must not be more than one storey, must not contain sanitary facilities or facilities for the storage of potable water and must not contain permanent cooking facilities.

Can you include a bathroom or a kitchen?

No, we generally do not include a bathroom or a kitchen as building consent would be required.

Do you build trailer homes?

Yes we do, building on a trailer allows you to include your kitchen, and bathroom and have no consent required.

About Us

About

At TTH, we create small, high quality, timber cabins, handcrafted to your specifications and delivered straight to your property.

Each cabin (or tiny home, as we like to call them) is small enough not to require consent, making them the perfect way to add new indoor space to an existing home or property without the hassle.

Working closely with clients from the design process through to installation is an important part of what we do. This means we can ensure that each build is exactly as you planned it. Clients are involved in all aspects, such as joinery style, lighting requirements and interior and exterior finishes.

It's important to us that our business is as sustainable as possible. By aiming to use recycled wood joinery, not only do we make sure that we're responsible in our practices, but lends a unique character to each tiny timber home. We also have the option of matching your existing house, so if there's a specific look you're going for, let us know and we'll organise it.

All cabins come completely finished and ready to use and we oversee each delivery to make sure it goes smoothly. We can also take care of any foundation work if required and if delivery isn't possible, have a build on-site option.

How it all began.

TTH came from humble beginnings. It all started in late 2013 when Phil Edwards and Alexander Ball got together to construct small garden sheds using timber milled by Phil from the extra logs left over by Alexander's arboriculture business. Gradually garden sheds turned into handcrafted, custom tiny houses. Phil's vision was to deliver a bespoke service to clients and TTH has been doing just that ever since.

TTH has come a long way since their garden shed days, but with every new cabin delivery we get even more passionate about delivering New Zealanders their very own little space to call home.
